1Am I eligible for coverage under the EIS Act?
The EIS Act covers all employees who are:
  1. Malaysian citizens/permanent residents/temporary residents
  2. Aged 18-60*
  3. Working in the private sector**
  4. Working under a contract of service
*Does not include employees above 57 years old who have never contributed before
**Does not include civil servants, employees of local authorities and statutory bodies, domestic servants, and the self-employed
2I just lost my employment. Am I eligible to apply for EIS benefits?
Eligibility for benefits:
  1. Apply within 60 days after the date of loss of employment (LOE)
  2. Fulfill the Contributions Qualifying Conditions (CQC)
  3. Be unemployed under the EIS Act’s definition of loss of employment (LOE)

LOE includes:
  • Normal retrenchment and redundancy
  • VSS/MSS (voluntary/mutual seperation schemes)
  • Closure of workplace due to natural disasters
  • Bankruptcy or closure of the company
  • Constructive dismissal
  • Resignation due to sexual harassment or threats made in the workplace
  • Resignation after being ordered to perform dangerous duties that are not within the job scope

The following CANNOT be accepted as LOE:
  • Dismissal due to employee misconduct
  • Voluntary resignation
  • Retirement
  • Expiry of a fixed-term contract (includes unconditional termination or completion of the project)
3How do I apply for EIS benefits?
You may apply online or in person at any PERKESO office.
4Do I need to provide any supporting documents when applying?
When applying, please bring the following documents:
  1. A copy of your NRIC
  2. Proof of Loss of Employment (LOE), e.g. a termination letter
  3. A copy of your bank account information
  4. Pay slips for the 6 months before the date of loss of employment
  5. Job offer (if applicable)
5How do I submit printed documents when applying online?

8How do I check the status of my application?
Please log into the portal using your case ID and password.
9My application was rejected. Can I file an appeal?
You may appeal to the Social Security Appellate Board within 60 days after rejection. Forms can be obtained at any PERKESO office.
10I previously received EIS benefits. Am I eligible to claim benefits for a second time? If I am eligible, what conditions must I fulfill?
You may apply for benefits for a second time if you fulfill all conditions. Please take special note of the Contributions Qualifying Conditions (CQC) requirement as these vary for subsequent applications
11How much income will I receive?
Payment rates will be calculated based on your assumed monthly salary. You may estimate the payment amount using our benefits calculator.

1How do I register with the Re-Employment Placement Program?
The Re-Employment Placement Program is open to the public. Interested participants may register here.

The 6 categories of Insured Persons are:
  • EIS Plus – Insured Persons who have lost their jobs and are eligible to receive financial allowances.
  • EIS – Insured Persons who have lost their jobs but who are NOT eligible to receive financial allowances.
  • SOCSO Contributors – SOCSO contributors who require job search assistance but who are not insured under the EIS Act.
  • Public – Members of the public who do not contribute to SOCSO or EIS but who are seeking employment.
  • DM – Insured Persons who are registered under the Return-to-Work Program.
  • RIA – Insured Persons with multiple jobs who have lost one or more (but not all) of them and require job search assistance.
2How do I qualify for the Re-Employment Placement Program?
You must be able to work, available for work and actively seeking work as stipulated in Section 44(2)(b) of the EIS Act.
3May I register for the Re-Employment Placement Program if I still work for another employer?
Yes, you may register. Once you have registered, you should comply with the Employment Commitment Plan (ECP).
4May I register with the Re-Employment Placement Program if I am pregnant or have just given birth?
Yes, Insured Persons who are pregnant or have just given birth may join the program. The ECP will be tailored to their needs.
5What do I do once I have signed up?
Registered participants should actively participate in all the stipulated job search activities, including attending interviews, searching for new jobs, attending career carnivals etc.
6What is the Employment Commitment Plan (ECP)?
The ECP is a job search plan that Insured Persons who have registered with the Re-Employment Placement Program need to comply with. Each Insured Person has an ECP tailored to their individual needs to increase their chances of getting a job.
7What happens if I do not comply with the ECP?
Insured Persons who do not comply with the ECP may have their financial allowances suspended. They may also be removed from the Re-Employment Placement Program.
8What counts as a job search activity?
Job search activities include:
  1. Searching for job via:
    • The Internet
    • Newspaper advertisements
  2. Applying for jobs
  3. Attending interviews
  4. Attending career carnivals
  5. Attending employability programs
  6. Attending vocational training
9What happens if I falsify my job search activity?
Insured Persons who falsify any documents will have their financial allowances suspended.
10May I receive the Early Re-Employment Allowance (ERA) if I decide to become self-employed?
Insured Persons who decide to become self-employed are not eligible to receive ERA. However, they may receive the Job Search Allowance (JSA) if they fulfill all the conditions.
11May I reject a job offer while registered with the Re-Employment Placement Program?
Persons may reject a job offer if they provide their Employment Services Officer with a reasonable explanation. If the Employment Services Officer is not satisfied with their explanation, their financial allowances may be suspended.
12Do I need to notify SOCSO if I accept a job offer?
Insured Persons should notify their Employment Services Officer within 2 days of accepting a job offer if they have not yet received JSA. They should notify their Employment Services Officer within 7 days of accepting a job offer if they are current receiving JSA.
13Am I eligible to receive vocational training?
Only EIS Plus recipients are eligible to attend vocational training funded by SOCSO. The funding value is capped at RM4,000.

Rehabilitation

1What is the Return-to-Work Program?
The Return-to-Work Program is a comprehensive rehabilitation program focusing on biopsychosocial rehabilitation that will address the problems faced by Insured Persons. The program facilitates the physical, psychological and social recovery of employees suffering from illness or work-related injuries.
2Why did SOCSO introduce the Return to Work Program?
SOCSO believes that it is not enough to only provide our vulnerable benefit recipients with financial benefits. We believe that it is vital to restore them to full physical and mental health for them to be fully functioning members of society again. In turn, this will improve their quality of life and help them regain their confidence.
3What is the role of a case manager?
Each Insured Person will be assigned a case manager, who is responsible for designing a personalized recovery program based on the Insured Person’s unique circumstances. The recovery program aims to reduce the impact of the injury and prepare the Insured Person to re-enter the workforce.
4What services are available under Return-to-Work Program?
Services include:
  • Therapy for breathing, movement, cardiac, neurological, and sensory problems
  • Speech therapy
  • Burn therapy
  • Pain management
  • Psychological counselling
  • Seeking occupational therapy
  • Recommending prosthetics or mobility aids

5Where is rehabilitation conducted?
Rehabilitation is conducted at the PERKESO Sdn Bhd Rehabilitation Center in Green City, Hang Tuah Jaya, Melaka. The Center, which began operations on 1st October 2015, provides comprehensive physical and vocational rehabilitation programs to restore the Insured Person’s physical abilities, prepare them for employment, and improve their quality of life. Rehabilitation is also available at approved centers throughout Malaysia (please visit the website rtwsocso.webly.com).
6How do I participate in the Return-to-Work Program?
